Cat purring sounds
A cat purring up close, slow and deep.
A 2-minute recording played in random overlapping segments, the way the app plays it, so you won't hear a loop. Start with your volume low. Keep this tab open.
About this sound
A male cat purring up close: a slow, deep, rolling purr with the soft rhythm of its breathing, and no meows.
We used about 6 and a half minutes of the original, removed a steady high tone at 7.8 kHz, softened the very low rumble and repaired many tiny clicks. The app plays random stretches of about half a minute joined with 4-second crossfades and a very slight drift in volume. The player on this page uses a 2-minute excerpt.
How people use it
A purring cat is a comforting sound for many people, especially those who miss sleeping next to one. It is quiet and rhythmic, so it does not mask much on its own.
The app's Fireside mix puts it with a fireplace and a little rain. Keep it at a gentle level, as if the cat were next to you rather than on your pillow.
If you also need to cover noise from outside, put a little brown noise or rain underneath.
Questions
Is purring good for sleep?
There is no research on purring sounds and sleep. Many people simply find it calming.
Does the cat meow?
No. It is a steady purr only, cleaned of small clicks.
Does it loop?
Not audibly. The app plays random parts of about 6 and a half minutes of recording, joined with 4-second crossfades, and each part comes back only after most of the others.
