About this sound
A soft, breathy shush that swells and settles, like a parent hushing a baby, without ever going fully silent.
It is generated, not recorded. Pink noise is passed through a band-pass filter around 3 kHz, where a human shush sits, and a low-pass filter at 7 kHz takes the edge off. A slow wave then moves the volume up and down. The Rhythm control sets the pace from one swell every 10 seconds to one every 2 seconds. The player generates it live in your browser with the app's code.
How people use it
Parents use shushing to calm and settle babies, and this saves your voice. The cautious way is a low volume, the speaker well away from the crib, and a timer rather than all night.
The app's Baby's Room mix layers it quietly with a heartbeat and white noise, with a slower rhythm. A slower rhythm also works for adults who like a sound that breathes.
