Shower sounds

A running shower. Warm, even water noise.

A 2-minute recording played in random overlapping segments, the way the app plays it, so you won't hear a loop. Start with your volume low. Keep this tab open.

About this sound

A running shower: water falling steadily, warm and even.

We used a steady stretch of the original; the app uses about 4 and a half minutes of it, played as random stretches of about half a minute joined with 4-second crossfades and a very slight drift in volume. The player on this page uses a 2-minute excerpt.

How people use it

A shower is a dense, broadband water sound, close to white or pink noise but more natural, so it covers voices and street noise well. Some people simply find it relaxing.

Turn the Tone control down for a softer, more distant shower. Keep the volume low for sleep; a fan or brown noise underneath gives a steadier base.

Some people with tinnitus find that a broadband water sound makes the ringing less noticeable. It does not treat tinnitus.

Questions

Why do shower sounds feel relaxing?

Running water is steady and broadband, like rain, and carries nothing to follow. Many people also connect it with warmth.

Is it louder than rain?

All sounds are set to the same loudness, so switching between them does not jump in volume.

Does it loop?

Not audibly. The app plays random parts of about 4 and a half minutes of recording, joined with 4-second crossfades, and each part comes back only after most of the others.

Can shower sounds help with focus?

Some people use water sounds to cover voices while they work. Keep the level low enough that you stop noticing it.
